Ionization chamber (top) and scintillator detector (bottom)
Scintillator detectors can be used to measure the energies of individual
X-ray and gamma-ray pulses. They are useful when trying to identify
the radioactive isotopes present in a sample.
Ionization chambers are useful in intense radiation fields and can
work over the widest temperature range. They are used for radiation monitoring
of intense continuous and pulsed sources, such as nuclear reactors and
particle accelerators.
