Highly sensitive neutron detector with integrated electronics.
Shown here is a 2-inch by 36-inch detector.
Bridgeport Instruments introduces a new, environmentally friendly technology for
thermal-neutron detection. The detectors use thin, scintillating 10B+ZnS(Ag)
films, that are applied to substrates of various shapes and read out by one or more
photomultipliers.
Drop-in replacements for 3He-tubes are available now in sizes ranging from
2x7 to 2x36 and 3x7 to 3x40 (diameter x length, inches). But other shapes, such as square
profiles and bars to build neutron walls, as well as neutron "paddles" are currently being evaluated
and will be available soon.
The detectors include all the necessary electronics and operate (produce TTL pulses)
without software assistance. They can be connected to a PC via USB, and free, open-source application software is
available to read count rates and count a rate history from a set of registers and built-in memory.
Note: We use USB-extenders to increase the distance between PC and detector to 75 ft (23m).
Depending on their size, the detectors may operate in gamma-ray fields as high as 700mRem/hr (60Co)
and still show a gamma-ray rejection power of 10*106.
The neutron detectors employ our proven Morpho technology
(eMorpho,
qMorpho) and integrate seamlessly into
Morpho software and mixed systems consisting of gamma-ray and neutron detectors.
Our neutron detectors can be installed without concerns about hazardous substances regulations.
The detecting films are environmentally friendly, and there are no poisonous gases or pressurized
containers involved.
We do understand that many neutron-detection applications have very specific requirements.
