Radiation Sensors - Detectors with Smarts

R2D - Radiation to Data

Our R2D sensors are complete and easy-to-use nuclear radiation detection systems. A single USB cable, connecting the R2D to a computer is all that is required to begin acquiring nuclear spectra.

Detector with smarts

The R2D combine a scintillator detector core with a TwinBase and an embedded eMorpho digital MCA to create a radiation sensor with smarts. All components have been selected to work together optimally. Calibration data and device control parameters are stored in non-volatile memory with the device, which makes deploying a new unit as easy as possible.

Detector cores

Cs-137 spectra We offer NaI(Tl) and CsI(Na) detector cores of different sizes to suit different applications.

Most of the time, NaI(Tl) will be the material of choice due to its low cost, high stopping power, high speed and good spectroscopic performance. CsI(Na) is recommended when highest stopping power and good energy resolution are required for high-energy γ-rays (>2 MeV).

Selection Guide

NaI(Tl) detectors

  • Lowest cost
  • Good energy resolution: < 7.0%(fwhm) at 662 keV
  • High count rate capability: 500,000 cps
  • Ideal for spectroscopy below 2 MeV

CsI(Na) detectors

  • Good energy resolution: < 7.0%(fwhm) at 662 keV
  • Moderate count rate capability: 20,000 cps
  • Ideal for spectroscopy above 2 MeV,
e.g. prompt gamma neutron activation analysis
